This year, to celebrate 25 years of the Gwalia Trust we held a black tie fundraising dinner at the newly refurbished Brangwyn Hall, in Swansea on Friday 26th September.
The evening was sponsored by Pentan Architects of Cardiff, with wine sponsorship from Konica Minolta.
Hosted by The Wave’s Kevin Johns MBE with music from the great Fat Barry’s Soul Band, the evening was a fantastic success and helped us to raise in excess of £11,000 towards helping people who live with or care for someone with dementia.
Our after dinner speaker was Derek Brockway, BBC Wales Weatherman and star of the hit BBC Wales programme ‘Weatherman Walking’ and the evening saw many people leave with some fantastic auction prizes that they wouldn't have otherwise been able to buy.
About the venue
Located just off of Swansea seafront, The Brangwyn Hall is part of the Swansea Guildhall complex and is used for awards ceremonies, social events and musical concerts.
Originally named after the official war artist Frank Brangwyn, it is home to his famous panels which were originally commissioned in 1924 to commemorate the First World War in the House of Lords.
Considered "too colourful and lively" for the House of Lords, they were instead put on display in Swansea's new Guildhall building where the large assembly hall showed them off to their best effect after the ceiling was raised especially for them. They have remained in situ since the building was inaugurated in 1934 and have been central to Swansea's cultural history, making the Brangwyn Hall famous for its 'colourful and lively' atmosphere.
